Dry Eye

Dry eye is a condition where the eye does not produce enough tears, or the tears do not lubricate the eyes enough. This makes the eyes feel gritty and uncomfortable and they can appear red. Causes include hot, dry or windy climates, high altitudes, air-conditioning and cigarette smoke. Many people also find their eyes become irritated when reading or working on a computer. Often symptoms can be relieved by using artificial tears to lubricate the eyes, although long term Dry Eye will need further investigation to rule out general health problems.
